That case was used for many Muncies during those years. What's your rear end ratio? I've got a 402 with a 228 duration cam and 3.08 rear gears, I was happy to have bought an M20 with the shorter first gear. Makes taking off much easier, and it still carries enough speed that I'm not immediately thinking about 2nd after letting the clutch out.

Although some claim that the M23 is a 'rock crusher', it is indicated that this box was assembled in both wide and close ratio components and also with straight cut gears common to the rock crusher (M22) transmission. Looks like you have a second design-feb. 28th, 1968, M20 or M21. Definitely not a rock crusher(no straight cut gears).
